La fortuna waterfall is our first hiking attraction. easy to access and easy to hike.
In this post we talk about the waterfall, how to get there, what it costs and what do bring.La fortuna waterfall also called Catarata La Fortuna Located near the Arenal Volcano Park area, 5 miles from La Fortuna de San Carlos.
The area has a high annual rainfall of more than 4000 mm and temperatures between 18 and 35 º C, creating a rich diversity of flora and fauna. bring your cameras , and as you walk down it will take you around 20 min to reach the waterfall, along the way you can spot monkeys, birds and many more wildlife.

what to bring : easy walking shoes, light clothing , good camera , good binoculars and swimming wear, yes you can swim in the cold water if you can stand the 65 meter drop of waterfall … AMAZING. you can also bring some lunch there are places to sit and chill, great picnic place.

So how to get there : from the main road 142 La Fortuna you drive west and after 1.9 km before Super Cristian you turn slighly left and drive up hill on a paved dirt road… all the way , you will see signs – "Reserva Ecológica Catarata Río Fortuna", you can also walk there but it takes around an hour.. worth the hike as you can always take a cold swim in the waterfall.. ( when you reach it after hiking down 20 min from the entrance) . dont forget if you park your car make sure you dont leave anything in it!!.

Prices : for tourists 10$ and for locals ( ticos and ticas ) 5.56$.
